This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve heard offseason speculation regarding the evolution of LSU’s offense but following the program’s hire of passing game coordinator Joe Brady, it would appear this time the rumors are true.

Spring practice is underway in Baton Rouge and for the first time since the end of the 2018 season, we’ve been given a glimpse at the wrinkles LSU’s offense has been working on this offseason. During Ed Orgeron’s introductory spring press conference, the LSU coach teased the changes that fans should be expecting from the offense in 2019.

“The addition of Joe Brady and the way him and Steve Ensminger are working is fantastic,” Orgeron noted before spring practice began. “This is a new offense from last year. You’re going to see it. We spread the ball around in different formations. I thought they were on fire today.”

Now we know that was far more than just pure lip service as quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Myles Brennan have been filmed running some advanced RPO concepts that bring receivers into the action. What LSU is running isn’t exactly anything new, Auburn’s has been running some of these concepts for years, but it is certainly revolutionary compared to what has been run in Baton Rouge the last decade or so.
