The Texas A&M basketball news apparently isn’t slowing down as Buzz Williams has reportedly already put in some time to build his first Aggie coaching staff.

The school officially announced the hire of Williams Wednesday morning but have not yet announced the coaching staff the former Virginia Tech head coach plans to assemble in College Station. According to Jeff Goodman of Stadium, look for Williams to bring at least one assistant with him from Blacksburg as well as steal an assistant away from a rival SEC program.

Goodman is reporting that LSU interim head coach Tony Benford is expected to join Williams in College Station and that Virginia Tech assistant Jamie McNeilly will be following Williams to Texas A&M. McNeilly and Williams have been working together since their time at Marquette, dating back to 2010. McNeilly also has experience serving as an assistant to the Canadian Men’s national team.

Benford, a former head coach at North Texas from 2012-2017, also served under Williams at Marquette. During his final two seasons at Marquette, Benford served as Williams’ associate head coach before landing the North Texas job. After leaving North Texas, Benford joined the LSU coaching staff.

Marquette made the NCAA Tournament every single season Williams, Benford and McNeilly served on the team’s coaching staff.

Safe to say Buzz Williams is getting the gang back together again, this time in College Station.
