It goes without saying that Bruce Arians has a unique approach when it comes to coaching football.

While NFL coaching is among the most stressful and time-consuming jobs in sports, Arians punches out and goes home every night like he works a normal nine to five. The two-time NFL Coach of the Year stepped away from his job with the Cardinals due to health concerns after the 2017 football season but after getting his health in over, he’s back in the game after landing the head job in Tampa.

Arians is such a big believer in not being consumed by the game, he recently told Peter King he threatens to fire any assistant coaches that blow off important family time such as their children’s events.

“If you miss a football game or a recital, anything to do with your children, I’ll fire you,” Arians says in the clip below. “Because I missed a lot of [my children’s], and those years don’t come back. There’s plenty of time in this office to work — you can come back at midnight if you want to. Don’t miss that recital don’t miss that game, because it means so much to your children. And it means so much to you. The games I did get to see my son play, I knew you felt differently and I don’t want those guys to miss that.”

The longtime NFL assistant began his coaching career at his alma mater of Virginia Tech before moving to the SEC, where he coached at Mississippi State and Alabama on two different occasions.
