Georgia’s path to the College Football Playoff was clear when the selection committee’s rankings were unveiled on Tuesday: win and the Bulldogs are in.

Kirby Smart’s squad advanced to 8-1 with a 27-0 win over Missouri in Week 11, leaving the Dawgs one conference win (or Florida SEC loss) from locking up the SEC East. UGA can punch its ticket to Atlanta on Saturday by beating Auburn in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Las Vegas book Circa Sports shared an opening line of Georgia as a 3-point favorite, but ESPN’s Football Power Index is favoring the Tigers at home. The FPI is giving Auburn a 52.6 percent chance of winning the Week 12 “SEC on CBS” showcase game.

The FPI is higher on the Tigers than traditional polls, ranking AU at No. 9.

ESPN’s explanation of the FPI:

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season.

FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is.

Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date and the remaining schedule.

Rating and projections update daily.

We’ll find out Sunday whether Vegas or the ESPN computers get this one right.
