Kirk Herbstreit, like the rest of the nation, had his eyes on the Ohio State-Penn State game. This was the chance the Buckeyes had to jump LSU for the No. 1 spot in the rankings.

However, it appears the Buckeyes didn’t do enough in their 28-17 win over the Nittany Lions. It wasn’t too pretty for Ohio State, but winning in November against ranked teams rarely is. The Buckeyes get Michigan Saturday in the final week of the regular season.

Following Week 13, the College GameDay analyst updated his top six teams:

The biggest loss in terms of Playoff seeding Saturday happened when Arizona State knocked off No. 6 Oregon. That theoretically helped No. 5 Alabama, as a one-loss Pac-12 Champion would likely jump Alabama for that final spot (if LSU beats Georgia in the SEC Championship).

As Herbstreit’s rankings reflect, Utah is still a problem for Alabama, and the Utes have a path to become a one-loss conference champion. Oklahoma is another team that could theoretically jump the Crimson Tide for the fourth spot.

For now, however, Georgia occupies No. 4 in Herbstreit’s rankings, and a UGA win over LSU in the SEC Championship Game would likely get the Bulldogs and Tigers into the Playoff.
