It’s the best weekend of the year in college football. We’ve got the Iron Bowl, the Egg Bowl, Florida/Florida State, whatever horrible thing is about to happen to South Carolina and more! Usually this week goes a long way in determining the balance of power between the SEC and the ACC. This year, we already know the answer to that. But it will be fun watching Florida and Georgia win by a lot anyway.

Let’s take a look around the SEC and see how each fan base is feeling heading into Rivalry Week.

Alabama

Alabama has 1 game to prove to the Playoff committee and the rest of the college football world that it deserves a spot in the Playoff. But let’s be honest, most people have made up their minds already. All Bama has to do is go out and embarrass Auburn like it usually does and dare them to keep you out. But whatever happens, you can look on the bright side in that at least you won’t have to deal with Atlanta traffic next week.

Arkansas

Technically, the Razorbacks play Missouri on Friday in what will surely be the most depressing football game this weekend, but in all reality the excitement for Arkansas starts right after the game ends. Who will the Razorbacks hire and can he reignite the spark of hope inside Arkansas fans that died out long ago? Probably not, but let’s hope for the best.

Auburn

It’s been an up and down season for the Tigers, but when you have the best defensive front in the SEC, you can win any game. On the other hand, when you have a true freshman quarterback and Gus Malzahn calling plays, you’re also always teetering on the edge of disaster. Can Auburn be the darling of the country and deliver a deathblow to Bama’s Playoff hopes? Everyone is rooting for you.

Florida

Florida hasn’t beaten FSU in The Swamp this decade, and you get the feeling the Gators are gearing up to make up for all of that on Saturday night. In other words, this one could get ugly. With a win, the Gators would finish the year with victories over FSU and Miami, but it won’t mean much until they can take down the state’s true second best team Florida International.

Georgia

Has any Playoff contender ever left their fans more distressed than the Dawgs do on a weekly basis? It’s been a choppy, confusing ride, but somehow Georgia is still alive and just 1 win away from the Playoff. That’s assuming a win against Tech of course, and if they struggle against this Tech team, Georgia might voluntarily disqualify themselves from Playoff contention

Kentucky

With Mark Stoops affirming he’ll be back next year, UK fans can take a final exhale and count their blessings on a season that was not nearly as bad as it could be. A win over Louisville would just make things that much sweeter. Let’s just hope the bowl game opponent isn’t Evansville.

LSU

The Tigers are riding into Rivalry Week as the No. 2 team in the country with all the rage-fueled motivation on its side. The nightmare that was last year’s 7 overtime game won’t allow LSU to overlook Texas A&M this week. At the very least, they should learn from their mistake last year and not douse Coach O with Gatorade until they’re absolutely sure the game is over.

Mississippi State

The Bulldogs have only won 1 game against an FBS school since September, and that was against Arkansas, so it barely counts. The good news is a win against Ole Miss and some of it will be forgiven and forgotten. But lose and you don’t want to be a member of the Mississippi State coaching staff, because you probably won’t be for long.

Missouri

The Tigers are not eligible for a bowl, so they’ll just have to treat this regular-season finale against Arkansas as a bowl game. It sounds disappointing, but to be quite honest, it’s still more exciting than the bowls most ACC teams will be forced to go to.

Ole Miss

It’s Egg Bowl time, and for both teams winning this game is the only thing that can really salvage this season. That means the chance of tensions boiling over is high, but hey, that’s a given in this game. At the end of the day, you get to watch John Rhys Plumlee play every week and they don’t, so we all know who the real winner is.

South Carolina

Let’s just get this over with as quickly as possible. When’s the Spring Game?

Texas A&M

The Aggies are on pace to set a record for quality losses in a single season, and they have a chance to pick up one more against LSU on Saturday. Jimbo is still looking for that signature win to sell his version of this program. A win here would certainly qualify, but that would mean beating the No. 2 team in the country, at the most difficult venue in the country. It’s probably best to just start scouting for the Belk Bowl.

Tennessee

The Vols are officially bowling and, remarkably, there are happy times once again in Knoxville. Now, there’s only one thing left to do: Beat Vanderbilt. It might seem like no big deal, but if you’ve watched the past 3 games between these teams, you know the Vols really need to win this one.

Vanderbilt

Tennessee’s season started in incredibly humiliating fashion, so why not end it in one. If not, hey, at least your season is over. When does baseball start? Can Kumar Rocker play QB? Tight end? Edge rusher? All 3?
