Lane Kiffin isn’t messing around. The new Ole Miss head coach is coming for Alabama.

Aaron Suttles of The Athletic tweeted on Wednesday that, “New Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is gunning for Alabama and Nick Saban. For his staff, he’s targeting current, former and potential UA coaches and staffers, including one long-time Saban coach.”

College football reporter Bruce Feldman quoted the tweet, revealing that one of the Crimson Tide assistants Kiffin tried to hire away was prominent strength coach Scott Cochran:

“In his biggest coup attempt, Kiffin offered Alabama strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran an on-the-field coaching position to try to steal him from Saban”

According to USA Today, Cochran’s salary is $595,000 as Alabama’s strength coach, making him the fifth-highest-paid strength coach in the NCAA. Cochran has been on Saban’s Alabama staff since the beginning (2007 season).

Cochran and other UA assistants obviously impressed Kiffin during his three seasons (2014-16) as Saban’s offensive coordinator. It will be interesting to see how many assistants with Alabama ties ultimately join Kiffin’s staff.
