When it comes to evaluating Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa as prospects, you literally could not find someone more qualified for the job than Nick Saban.

That’s what makes ESPN’s announcement that Saban is featured on two episodes of the ESPN+ series “Detail” all the more interesting.

Considering Saban has spent time in the NFL and shares information with NFL coaching staffs on a regular basis, he’s well aware of what those teams are interested in when it comes to breaking down prospects. Of course, Saban has spent several years working with Tagovailoa on the practice field and in the Alabama team facility while he’s also experienced gameplanning against Burrow the previous two seasons in Tuscaloosa.

While Saban’s defensive gameplan has been a mixed bag against Burrow, Alabama shutout LSU in 2018 only to have the Tigers score 46 points in 2019, his experience against the former college quarterback should prove to be a valuable source when it comes to studying Burrow’s progression over the previous two years.

Saban’s history likely made him ESPN’s No. 1 option when it comes to studying Burrow and Tagovailoa leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft.

“I think Tua and Joe are outstanding athletes and will be very successful as quarterbacks in the NFL,” said Saban in a released statement from ESPN. “Joe has great vision. He does a good job with pre-snap reads and knowing where he needs to go with the ball. And Tua is very instinctive, with a lot of smarts and great touch and accuracy on his throws. I’m looking forward to watching both of them in the NFL.”

“Detail” is streaming now exclusively on ESPN+. The show is produced by Granity Studios and was originally created by Kobe Bryant.
