Trey Burton’s time in Chicago is coming to an end.

The veteran NFL tight end signed with the Bears two years ago after playing four years for the Philadelphia Eagles and helping the franchise win a Super Bowl title. The Eagles signed Burton after he went undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft.

NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo was the first to report the news of Burton’s release. According to Garafolo, the Bears owe Burton $4 million to play next season, which will likely make him a coveted free agent considering Chicago has to pay that figure regardless.

During his NFL career, Burton has 131 catches for 1,282 yards and scored 12 touchdowns in his six NFL seasons.

Burton played four seasons in Gainesville, lining up all over the field including spending time at quarterback, running back and receiver. He finished his college career with 1,696 total yards from scrimmage and 20 touchdowns.
