Former CFB coach dies from COVID-19 complications
As the world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of people involved with college athletics have contracted the illness.
Some have recovered, others haven’t. On Sunday, former Maryland football coach Roy Lester died at the age of 96 due to complications from the virus.
As you can see below, his daughter posted a heartfelt tribute to her dad on Facebook. Current Maryland coach Mike Locksley also took to Twitter to offer his condolences:
Sad to hear about the passing of underrated Terps Head Coach Roy Lester. He came up the ranks as a high school coach and took over during a tumultuous time. He laid the solid foundation for the Claiborne era. Always a Terp??? https://t.co/QukOOsSn3m

Lester was Maryland’s coach for 3 seasons from 1969 to 1971, going 7-25 overall during a tumultuous time for the Terrapins program. He then went back to the high school ranks and coached until 1993.
Lester was inducted to the Maryland Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1996.
