Until this year, Todd McShay had worked every NFL Draft dating back to 2006. If you missed it, the ESPN veteran was diagnosed with coronavirus leading up to the draft.

He announced the news on the morning of the 2020 NFL Draft.

For the first time since his coronavirus diagnosis became public, the ESPN analyst shared what it was like to miss the draft during an appearance on Adam Schefter’s podcast.

“I was just gone. It got really dark in the hospital, when I was just, when I was just by myself,” McShay shared. “And I knew the draft is going on. And I couldn’t watch it. I didn’t watch the draft until Saturday night – I woke up late that night and there was a re-air and I started watching it then because I knew it was over. And I, for whatever reason, I just, I couldn’t watch the draft knowing that I wasn’t being a part of it, and wasn’t on it, and I felt like I was letting everyone down.”

Those comments really put things in perspective as McShay likely didn’t realize just how important the draft was in his life until he was forced to miss the 2020 NFL Draft. Next year, you can be sure the ESPN analyst will be more thankful than ever to cover the event.
