We have some unfortunate news to share out of Nashville as second-year San Francisco receiver Deebo Samuel has reportedly suffered a serious injury during his training for the upcoming NFL season.

The second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft was one of the breakout stars for a 49er team that advanced all the way to the Super Bowl last season after catching 57 passes for 802 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for another 159 yards and three scores in 2019.

While training in Nashville with San Francisco starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and rookie receiver Jauan Jennings, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that Samuel suffered a broken foot.

“49ers receiver Deebo Samuel suffered a broken foot on Tuesday during a throwing session with teammates in Nashville and will be having surgery today, I’m told. It is a Jones fracture, and he should be able to be on the field early in the season,” Rapoport shared on Thursday.

The only bright side here is that Rapoport is reporting that Samuel is expected to make a quick return after suffering the training injury.

Samuel made 15 total appearances for the 49ers last season and registered 11 starts in his NFL debut.
