Stanford coach David Shaw explains why a winter football season could work for Pac-12
The Pac-12 has announced it has postponed football until 2021 at the earliest. The Big Ten has also made that decision.
Many are wondering if the Pac-12 will be able to play a spring season, but what if the league decided to attempt to play sooner?
On Tuesday, Stanford head coach David Shaw joined SiriusXM Radio and explained why he thinks starting in January could work:
There's been a lot of discussion about a spring football season for the @pac12 in 2021…but what about winter football?@StanfordFball HC @CoachDavidShaw laid out his plan to @GuyHaberman & @evanmoore89 on Pac-12 Today. pic.twitter.com/Zie8on7Zg4

“A January start and possibly a March finish to where now what you would only augment is spring football,” he said. “So after you finish after March and you have some time to dial down, you have some time to take care of all your wounds, and now all you have to do now is truly prepare your body for August. That, to me, makes a lot of sense.”
Shaw then notes that moving into April and May makes starting another season in August much tougher. Will the Pac-12 look into a January start? We’ll see what the league says moving forward.
