Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt has joined the chorus of people within college football who have praised the SEC’s leadership, specifically Commissioner Greg Sankey, when it comes to the conference-only format and 10-game schedule which starts this week.

“I don’t think you’re going to see the stops and starts we’re seeing in some of these other conferences like the ACC and the Big 12, where you’re seeing postponements, game cancellations,” Klatt said. “… They’re not trying to play out-of-conference games, so you’re going to have the like protocols with every team that steps on the field. What I’ve seen from these other teams is the lower level teams from the Group of 5, who maybe don’t have as stringent of levels of protocols or testing, they come out there, they play, and then all of a sudden there’s a bit of a spike.”

Klatt then added that Sankey handled the offseason as well or better as anyone in the sport, and turned himself into the, “most powerful man in college football.”

“I think postponing until the end of September was brilliant,” Klatt said. “We’re seeing that as we see some of the postponements from the Big 12 and ACC, as they were trying to play through kids coming back to campus. The normal population coming back to campus, you were going to get spikes, and then inevitably that was going to bleed over to your football team. … We’ve seen the wave come through campus, it subsides and I think they’ll be able to play through it.”

Klatt also said the SEC is deeper than ever with adding Florida to the mix of Alabama, LSU, Georgia and Auburn among traditional powers. He then threw Texas A&M, Tennessee and maybe Kentucky.

“These 10 conference games will be an absolute beat,” Klatt said.
