Year 6 under Jim Harbaugh for Michigan is off to a rough start. The Wolverines fell to 1-1 on the season with a 27-24 loss to rival Michigan State. For the UM faithful, it doesn’t help that MSU previously lost to Rutgers and the Spartans are just two games into the Mel Tucker era.

For Harbaugh, it’s the kind of loss that has him feeling the heat from both Michigan fans and national critics. One of his biggest critics, ESPN analyst and SEC Network host Paul Finebaum, didn’t shy from piling on during a Sunday SportsCenter appearance.

“This is not breaking news,” Finebaum said. “This is who Jim Harbaugh is. He gets paid $8 million per year. We all act like he’s Nick Saban, but he’s not. He’s a slightly better than average college coach. Anyone who claims he’s an elite coach, it’s just not true at all. I think this is what Michigan wants. They keep supporting him and endorsing him even though he can’t beat Ohio State and struggling to beat his in-state rival (Michigan State). This is what Michigan deserves.”

Michigan, which is 48-19 overall and 33-13 in conference play under Harbaugh, will look to right the ship on Saturday against a 2-0 Indiana team. Michigan defeated Indiana 39-14 in 2019 before blowout losses to Ohio State (56-27) and Alabama (35-16).
