The SEC isn’t the only conference hit by COVID-19 cancelations this week. On Wednesday, Maryland announced that due to the number of cases within the Terrapins program, Saturday’s game against Ohio State has been canceled.

Since the Big Ten got a late start to the season and did not schedule bye weeks into the conference slate, this means Ohio State has had a game dropped from its schedule. OSU is 3-0 and, without Maryland, will have up to 4 regular-season games remaining before the conference championship game. Like the SEC, the Big Ten is planning its conference championship game for Dec. 19.

It will be interesting to see how the College Football Playoff selection committee weighs the difference in conference schedules, especially with the Big Ten running into cancelations that cannot be made up. As members of the SEC and ACC, Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Texas A&M and Notre Dame are all on track to play double-digit games (if the conferences can avoid more disruptions to the schedule).

The first CFP selection committee Top 25 reveal is set for Nov. 17. We’ll see how 3-0 Ohio State compares in the rankings to teams that have played more games such as 6-0 Alabama.
