It’s another week in the SEC, and another week for the Bold Prediction department to dial up a couple of random guesses at the events of the week. We’ve got an upset alert, a couple of Heisman contenders in action, and a chance at more SEC history.

Najee’s big day

Arkansas is short-handed and its defense has given up 50 and 63 points in 2 of the last 3 games. Meanwhile, Bama’s last 5 scoring totals are 48, 41, 63, 42 and 55. Given that Arkansas is allowing 189 rushing yards per game, it feels like a week when Najee Harris takes off. He’s only eclipsed 160 rushing yards once this season, in Game 3 against Ole Miss when he had 206 yards. Unless Nick Saban decides to rest everybody early, we’ll mark him down for another 200-yard game as the Tide again pass the half-century mark.

Mizzou with a shocker

Missouri and Georgia present one of the league’s biggest surprises and one of its biggest disappointments. The Bulldogs have more talent, but Missouri has been impressive in rolling to a 5-3 mark and battering Vandy and Arkansas in the last 2 weeks. Georgia has rolled on the strength of its defense, but Missouri has an answer. Larry Rountree will come up with 100 rushing yards, and while JT Daniels will be solid, we like Mizzou to pull the shocker, 31-28.

Fuller history, but not victory

Sarah Fuller is listed as a backup on the depth chart, but the Hollywood script would be for her to make a walk-off field goal to beat the Vols. While Tennessee has been awful … even we’re not going that bold. Somebody will play quarterback for UT, and whoever it is (ahem, Harrison Bailey) will find Vandy to be charitable hosts. The ‘Dores are allowing 293 passing yards per game and have 1 total interception. UT will throw the ball like Peyton Manning is back in town. Fuller will get in the scorebook with a PAT (and a late field goal if given the opportunity), but the Vols win 31-10 due to a 300-yard passing game by whoever they end up playing.

500 for Trask

No, Florida will not struggle with a bowl-banned LSU team. In fact, remember Week 1, and how Mississippi State passed for over 600 yards? Well, Florida won’t quite do that, but it’ll only be because the game is securely in hand. Never one to avoid scoring points, we do see Dan Mullen and the Gators piling up a few here. Again, assuming he isn’t pulled early to stay safe for the SEC title game, Trask throws for 500 yards, the Gators win by 40, and we’re all just waiting for the SEC title game.

No shocker for State

Mississippi State is an underdog with a reasonable point spread to overcome, as Auburn is favored by just 6.5 over the Bulldogs. But what do we know about Auburn? Whenever the Gus Bus is in danger, it somehow gets straightened out. Auburn seems like a certain bet to thump State and then roll in its bowl game, just to make the question of Malzahn’s future as complicated as possible. To that end, we like Tank Bigsby to set a career-high in yardage, eclipsing the 146 yards he rolled up on Arkansas, as the Tigers impress in a 41-14 win.
