Clark Lea’s Vanderbilt coaching staff is taking shape. A familiar face could be reuniting with Lea on the West End.

Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports is reporting, per sources, that Louisville running backs coach Norval McKenzie will return to Vanderbilt as the Commodores’ new running backs coach. Lea and Norval were teammates at Vandy.

McKenzie got his start in college coaching as Vanderbilt’s assistant recruiting coordinator in 2010 while completing his master’s degree at VU. He then coached at Furman from 2011-15, serving in the recruiting coordinator, special teams coordinator and running backs coach roles. After Furman, McKenzie was Arkansas State’s running backs coach from 2016-18. He joined the Louisville staff in 2019.

Previous reported names for Lea’s staff include Justin Lustig (special teams, previously at Syracuse), Casey Stangel (director of football operations, previously on Vanderbilt baseball staff) and Barton Simmons (general manager, previously director of scouting at 247Sports).
