Just when it looked like South Carolina couldn’t lose any more players to the transfer portal, redshirt freshman defensive lineman Joseph Anderson has made the decision to enter the portal.

During his two seasons in Columbia, Anderson saw action in just five games, making four tackles during that time. He was also named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll his first season in Columbia.

Anderson’s decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal was first reported by Matt Zenitz of AL.com.

A native of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Anderson was rated as a four-star prospect coming out of Oakland High School. He was also rated the No. 2 overall recruit from Tennessee and the No. 8 strongside defensive end in the nation in the 2019 recruiting cycle by 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The freshman lineman is the latest in a growing line of Gamecocks to leave the program this offseason or declare early for the 2021 NFL Draft.

The movement predictably began as soon as Will Muschamp was fired as starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Israel Mukuamu opted out and were soon joined by defensive back R.J. Roderick, receiver OrTre Smith, offensive lineman Mark Fox and defensive lineman Makius Scott.

When it comes to players set to transfer out of the South Carolina program, that list is also a long one.

Defensive backs Shilo Sanders (transferred to Jackson State), Jammie Robinson and John Dixon have all announced their decisions to leave South Carolina and have been followed by quarterback Ryan Hilinski, running back Deshaun Fenwick (transferred to Oregon State) and defensive lineman Keir Thomas.
