Ed Orgeron provides update on LSU's spring QB battle, names player who is taking 'first reps'
Last year, Myles Brennan started as LSU’s quarterback. But, he suffered an injury against Mizzou and missed most of the rest of the season.
In the last 2 games of the 2020 season, in which the Tigers finished 5-5, freshman Max Johnson started, leading the Tigers to wins in those 2 games.
So, as the Tigers enter spring practices, coach Ed Orgeron said Johnson is getting the first reps at practice, but added that all the QBs are taking equal reps:
On the QB competition, Orgeron says Max Johnson is taking the first reps right now since he won the last two games for #LSU.
But all the QBs are taking equal reps. He calls it an open competition.
"Let the best man win." #LSU

The issue will be what happens when a starter is named. If Johnson or Brennan wins, the other might transfer.
How will Coach O balance that? We’ll find out as the spring season moves along.
