Cam Newton shares nickname for Mac Jones, first impressions of former Alabama QB
Cam Newton thinks Mac and Cheese is pretty cool. While it may well be one of Newton’s favorite foods, the former Auburn quarterback was actually talking about his new teammate from Alabama.
Mac Jones was known as “The Joker” at Alabama, but Newton apparently has a different nickname for the rookie quarterback.
“Mac and Cheese, he’s pretty cool,” Newton told reporters when asked about Jones. “He’s quiet, trying to figure everybody out.”
According to NESN’s Doug Kyed, Newton had more to say about Jones.
“He’s doing a great job with being everything as advertised,” Newton said. “From the leadership perspective, he’s holding himself accountable.”
There’s plenty of SEC-related intrigue with the New England quarterback job this year with Iron Bowl alumni Newton, Jones and a “fired up” Jarrett Stidham all in the Patriots’ QB room. It should be an entertaining preseason.
