Rick Barnes didn’t have to search very far for Tennessee’s first commitment of the 2022 recruiting cycle as local point guard BJ Edwards just announced his commitment to join the Volunteer program.

Edwards plays for Knoxville Catholic high school.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound Edwards is rated as a four-star prospect, the No. 15 point guard prospect in the country and Tennessee’s No. 4 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Edwards picked the Vols over scholarship offers from Florida, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.

During the 2021 recruiting cycle, Tennessee signed the SEC’s No. 1 recruiting class and the No. 3 class in the country.
