Auburn already had the fewest commitments in the Southeastern Conference heading into the week and now the class just got smaller as one of the program’s in-state pledges has re-opened his recruitment.

Opelika native Jarell Stinson announced on Wednesday he has made the decision to decommit from Auburn. Stinson visited Auburn, as well as Florida and UCF, during the open recruiting period in June.

The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Opelika High School standout is rated as a three-star prospect, the No. 45 cornerback and a top 500 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

“First off, I would like to thank God for putting me in the position that I am in today. I would also like to thank Coach Harsin and the whole Auburn University staff for believing in me and my abilities. After many talks with my family, coaches, and friends I have decided that decommitting from Auburn University and re-opening my recruitment is best for my future. I’m very excited to explore other options and find the best spot for me to pursue my athletic and academic career,” Stinson posted on Wednesday.

With Stinson decommitting, Auburn now holds commitments from just five players in the current recruiting cycle. The Tigers are the only SEC program that has yet to reach double-digit commitments this cycle.
