Mel Tucker is staying at Michigan State, and one of the hottest names on the coaching carousel is officially off of it.

It’s truly amazing what one good year can do for someone’s career. In Major League Baseball, one good year can solidify a career and set players up financially for the rest of their lives. That just happened to Mel Tucker at Michigan State.

The Spartans announced Wednesday night that Tucker had signed a new mega contract to remain in East Lansing. Yahoo! Sports Pete Thamel is reporting that Tucker’s new contract is worth $95 million over 10 years and all of it is guaranteed.

Mind you, this is all for a coach who is 16-14 overall, including an impressive 9-2 season in 2021. Tucker finished just 10-14 in 2 seasons at Colorado before going 2-5 last year at Michigan State.

However, in today’s college football coaching world, there are more good programs than there are good coaches, and when programs find the right coach, they have to hold onto him.

Tucker had been one of the hottest names on the coaching carousel, getting looks at both LSU and USC; however, he’ll remain in East Lansing for the future.

This is a tremendous investment in Tucker and the Michigan State program.
