Todd McShay gets shredded for Playoff take after Ohio State loss
Todd McShay is an NFL and college football analyst for ESPN, and he was watching the Michigan upset of Ohio State on Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor.
After the Buckeyes lost, McShay fired off a tweet that earned him immediate criticism.
As you can see below, McShay said he still thinks a 2-loss Ohio State team should get into the College Football Playoff over an undefeated Cincinnati team, arguing that he wants the best 4 teams in the event:
A lot can happen in the next week. But if it comes down to to OSU and Cincinnati for the No. 4 spot in the CFP, Ohio State is simply better. Two losses might keep them out but I want the #best4teams

Naturally, McShay was immediately called out for that take:
You dont even know the best four players let alone the best four teams

So who cares about playing the games then? Let’s just decide the 4 best teams at the beginning and let them play.

You are literally deciding the playoff teams based on recruiting rankings. Why even play the games at that point? Quite a take

Most talented doesn’t mean best team. They blew their chance to get in. ✌?

should just never play any games and ESPN decides the 4 teams in August every year, i guess….

Your platform is too big to be talking this crazy https://t.co/4WMNUBizxz

This @CFBPlayoff format is now getting so ridiculously subjective to the point where we’re considering teams based solely off of recruiting rankings. Sorry, but the games still have to matter! ??♂️ https://t.co/Xc7vS0Q87R

If I were one of the #best4teams I would simply lose fewer games https://t.co/JMcP3GCyfX

Everything that's wrong with the college football playoff* in one tweet. https://t.co/yYiClWHN0d

What will the College Football Playoff committee do with the Buckeyes on Tuesday night when the new rankings come out? It seems likely that they’ll at least drop out of the top 4, regardless of what McShay thinks.
