Marty Smith explains why Texas A&M loss was 'the best thing to happen to this Alabama team'
Marty Smith has been busy ahead of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia.
As an SEC Network and ESPN analyst, he was also busy after Texas A&M upset Alabama earlier this year.
On Wednesday’s edition of “The Paul Finebaum Show,” Smith explained why that loss to the Aggies was the best thing that could have happened to Nick Saban’s team:
“The best thing to happen to this Alabama team was losing to Texas A&M. This is a young team. Maybe this team lost sight on what it takes to become a national champion. … That was quite a wake-up call for a lot of these young players.” – @MartySmithESPN

That loss also eliminated any potential margin of error the Tide had. After losing to the Aggies, they basically had to win out to make the Playoff field, which they ended up doing.
Now, the big question is — can they beat Georgia again? We’ll find out on Monday night in Indianapolis.
