Urban Meyer’s Jacksonville tenure was mired in controversy and drama, and things ended rather abruptly and publicly.

The three-time national championship coach appears primed for a move back to college football to once again become an analyst with FOX Sports, according to The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch. Meyer was excellent in that role prior to taking the Jaguars job.

Meyer worked for FOX Sports’ pregame show “Big Noon Kickoff” for 2 years. According to Deitsch, FOX Sports executives don’t view Meyer’s NFL flop unfavorably with respect to the network.

According to the report, a deal isn’t complete, but it’s “heading that way,” meaning it could happen soon.

Earlier in April, Meyer told the Tim May Podcast that he planned on returning to FOX Sports.

“That’s all still in conversation,” Meyer said. “I love FOX, I love their team and their guys. There’s nothing that’s been finalized yet, but I plan on going back and doing it. I really enjoyed that. I enjoyed celebrating those who play, celebrating those who coach it – it’s a great game. Not being the kind of ripping people to shreds but just celebrating this incredible game and most importantly, the players that do this game. I plan on being back in the fall doing something like that.”

Unless things break down, Meyer is headed back to the studio for the 2022 college football season.
