Tennessee and Missouri have played just 10 times in nearly 131 seasons of college football. Before 2012, the series history was nothing but radio silence.

There have been some excellent individual performances from both teams during that time, even if the game wasn’t always close. A few of them are memorable enough to remember off the top of the head.

Here’s a list of the 10 best individual performances in series history between Tennessee and Missouri.

10. Emanuel Hall – 2017

Emanuel Hall had the best game a Missouri receiver has had against Tennessee in 2017, and even then he left a lot on the table. Hall totaled 5 receptions for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns, but dropped a pair of catches, one of which was a guaranteed touchdown from Drew Lock.

Not like it was necessary. The Tigers still cruised to a 50-17 victory.

9. Micah Abernathy – 2016

Micah Abernathy led all tacklers for both teams in 2016, totaling 12 tackles with an interception and a pass deflection to boot. Not to mention, picking off Drew Lock was not exactly easy.

At the time, his 12 tackles against the Tigers was a career high. He eclipsed that total the following year… against Missouri.

8. Eric Gray – 2020

Adding to the list of impressive running back performances in this series is Eric Gray’s outing in 2020. Gray, an eventual Oklahoma transfer, performed well for the Vols before they eventually fell off a cliff later that year.

Gray rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown while also catching a pass from Jarrett Guarantano for a score. Guarantano, despite several down games for the Vols, also had an excellent outing vs. the Tigers.

7. Anthony Sherrils – 2017

Anthony Sherrils was Missouri’s top tackler on the day with 6 tackles and notched an interception to aid in Missouri’s 50-17 win. He also forced and recovered a fumble to complete his all-around outing.

6. Kendial Lawrence – 2012

The first great performance from the series history was Kendial Lawrence in 2012. Lawrence was Missouri’s workhorse on the ground, totaling 153 yards rushing with 2 touchdowns in Missouri’s epic 51-48 win over the Volunteers.

He averaged just over 7.3 yards per carry, too.

5. James Franklin – 2012

While Lawrence was tearing it up on the ground, James Franklin had one of the best performances from a Missouri quarterback vs. Tennessee in the series’ history. The Vols and Tigers went back and forth, eventually ending in an overtime shootout that saw Missouri come out on top.

Franklin threw for 4 touchdown passes in the win, completing 19 of his 32 attempts on the day for 226 yards in the process. He added 43 yards rushing to that strong total, too.

4. Tiyon Evans – 2021

Tiyon Evans had a short, yet memorable career in Knoxville before transferring to Louisville mid-season. His magnum opus for the Vols came in a beatdown of Missouri in Week 5.

Evans rushed for 3 touchdowns vs the Tigers’ dreadful run defense, averaging 10.4 yards per carry on his way to 156 total yards. Tennessee rushed for an astounding 458 yards against the Tigers in the 62-24 win.

3. Ish Witter – 2017

Ish Witter ascended past 2,000 career rushing yards with his 216-yard performance against Tennessee in 2017. In what was a strong night for Tigers running backs, his 216 yards and 1 touchdown lended to a 50-17 beatdown of the Vols.

Mizzou’s 2nd option at running back, Larry Rountree, totaled 155 yards rushing with a touchdown himself.

2. Hendon Hooker – 2021

Before Hendon Hooker was a Heisman candidate, he was gearing up in Year 1 under Josh Heupel. Hooker had a simply fabulous game against Missouri in 2012, completing 15 of his 19 passes for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns.

He also rushed for a score in Tennessee’s 62-24 win over the Tigers.

1. Josh Dobbs – 2016

Josh Dobbs truly emerged in that fateful 2016 season for Tennessee. In one of Tennessee’s few wins on the back half of the season, Dobbs carved up the Tigers secondary for 3 passing touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns.

He was efficient, too. Dobbs wasn’t much known for his accuracy, yet still completed 15 of 22 passes on the afternoon.
