Rece Davis believes that the Pac-12 could have a say in the final standings of the College Football playoff.

The ESPN College Football Gameday anchor was a guest Wednesday on the Dan Patrick Show and broke down a couple of possible sleeper teams in the final four, including the USC Trojans and Oregon Ducks.

“I think we’ve talked about most of them, but you probably hit it with USC,” Davis said.

No. 8 USC (8-1, 6-1) has looked strong in its first year under Lincoln Riley and has quarterback Caleb Williams in the Heisman mix. The Trojans lost 43-42 to Utah on October 15. USC has a strong back end of the schedule with UCLA and Notre Dame — both ranked in the top 20 — on the docket.

No. 6 Oregon (8-1, 6-0) has been on a tear since an opening-week 49-3 loss to No. 1 Georgia. The Ducks also have a strong back end of the schedule with ranked teams Washington and Utah and recently-ranked Oregon State.

But for Davis it’s the 49-3 loss to Georgia that he can’t get out of his mind.

“If you are capable of getting beaten down by that..you’ve got such a small tournament — just four teams — and every little thing has got to count,” Davis said. “Getting your doors blowmn off should count.”

And that doesn’t just stand for Oregon. Davis feels the same way about No. 7 LSU should they run the table and win in the SEC Championship.

“If LSU is a two-loss SEC champion,” Davis said. “I sort of feel like they have a ceiling on them because they got their doors blown off by Tennessee.”

So what if Oregon wins out and LSU wins out…is it possible we could have a four-team playoff that doesn’t include the Pac-12 or the SEC Champion in it?

There might only be three weeks left in the regular season, but there’s a lot of football left to be played.
