Three SEC stars were named as finalists for the 2022 Lombardi Award. The coveted honor is presented yearly to the nation’s top offensive or defensive lineman who “best exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach Vince Lombardi.”

It’s quite a name and a strong list of candidates to boot. The 3 SEC inclusions for the award are Alabama’s Will Anderson alongside Georgia’s Jalen Carter and Brock Bowers.

Surprisingly, no offensive linemen were named as finalists. Only 4 were named, also including USC’s Tuli Tuipolotu.

Bowers is an admittedly strange inclusion on this list as a pass-catching tight end. Not necessarily because he is not a good blocker as well, but other lineman such as Minnesota’s John Michael Schmitz could make a case for a spot.

There’s no denying Bowers is an incredible talent, though and obviously still a lineman. Who knows, maybe we’ll have our first tight end win the Lombardi Award in 2022.
