This spring, WR DeVonta Smith has been working some at cornerback, with coach Nick Saban saying he just wants to have Smith ready to play on defense in case of emergencies.

On Wednesday, another offensive player — 2018 early enrollee Slade Bolden — was with the defensive backs during practice.

AL.com reported that Bolden, a running back, was playing at deep safety during the practice session:

Also spotted working with the defensive backs was freshman early enrollee Slade Bolden. It looked like Bolden was playing deep at safety when they were walking through a few situations.

Bolden was a 3-star recruit coming out of high school, so there’s a possibility he takes a redshirt this fall, but the Tide are preparing him to play on both sides of the ball just in case.

Saban’s press conference will be held on Wednesday evening, so perhaps he’ll comment on the running back’s move then.
