One of the National Football League’s most promising young defensive backs appears to be on his way out of New York.

Former Alabama standout Landon Collins may have played his last down of football in New York after racking up 428 tackles, 32 pass deflections, eight interceptions and making 59 starts over the previous four seasons. An All-Pro selection following the 2016 season, while Collins has failed to appear in every game for the Giants over the previous two seasons, he has consistently been one of the franchise’s best players during that span.

Despite that fact, Josina Anderson of ESPN is reporting that Collins has cleaned out his locker in New York and issued his farewell to his teammates, coaches and trainers.

“The heart of (Landon Collins) is indisputable. From watching a lot of #Giants games & knowing what I know, this is a player who was a vocal leader, played when hurt & is the soul of the secondary. It’s up to organizations in general, not just #NFL teams, to show proper appreciation,” Anderson followed up her report with that comment on Twitter.

If he does indeed hit the open market, the 25-year-old Collins could quickly become one of the biggest free agents this offseason in the NFL. Collins was a team captain in 2018 and is soon set to become a free agent.

Collins was selected by the Giants in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, with the 33rd overall selection, following a three-year career in Tuscaloosa.
