Clemson didn’t quite live up to expectations during the 2021 regular season, losing 3 of its first 7 games before ending up 9-3. Now, the Tigers are losing some of their players for the future.

On Friday, Jon Blau of the Post and Courier reported that quarterback Taisun Phommachanh has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Phommachanh had been serving as the backup QB behind DJ Uiagalelei this season.

Uiagalelei is a sophomore and Phommachanh is a redshirt sophomore, so it makes sense that Phommachanh may want to transfer in order to join a team where he could potentially become a starting quarterback.

Phommachanh was a 4-star recruit in Clemson’s 2019 recruiting class, but he never got much of an opportunity to take the field for the Tigers. Over the past 3 seasons, he went 22-for-48 for 204 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions in 12 games.

This news came shortly after it had been reported that Clemson wide receiver Frank Ladson Jr. had entered the transfer portal. So the Tigers are losing some depth on offense heading into the offseason.
