Ole Miss and Auburn were set to open Week 9 of conference play in the SEC on Thursday evening, but Mother Nature had other plans. Thursday’s series opener has been postponed and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Friday, beginning at 2 p.m. CT/3 p.m. ET.

Both of Friday’s games will be 9-inning contests. There will be 1 hour between games and Ole Miss. The team also offered details on tickets for the games.

It’s a critical series for the Rebels. The defending national champions are in danger of not playing postseason baseball.

The top 12 teams in the final conference standings will make the 2023 SEC Baseball Tournament. If the season ended Thursday, Ole Miss would not be 1 of the 12 teams playing in Hoover, Alabama.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State are currently tied for last place with 6-18 records in conference play. As of right now, Missouri is the last team in as the No. 12 seed, with a 7-17 SEC mark. Mizzou took 2-of-3 from Ole Miss in Columbia last weekend.

The Rebels have 7 games remaining on the schedule. After the 3 games against Auburn, Ole Miss will host Austin Peay on Tuesday for its 2023 home finale. The Rebels will wrap up the regular season on the road at Alabama.

As for Auburn, the Tigers are currently looking at the No. 10 seed in the SEC Tournament with an 11-13 conference record. D1Baseball projects AU to make the NCAA Tournament, but not host a regional. Auburn has a 27-19-1 overall record.
