Kyle Filipowski was left with an unexpected injury after Duke’s Saturday loss to Wake Forest, and he did not try to hide his frustration after the game.

In a brief interview for WFMY News 2, Filipowski said it was “ridiculous” how the situation was handled after the Demon Deacons upset Duke. He claimed to feel a number of hits to his body but the one to his leg was the worst.

“I felt a bunch of hits on my body, this one was just the worst of them. Like I said, it’s just really ridiculous of how that situation is handled,” said Filipowski.

Jon Scheyer originally said the injury was a sprained ankle but has corrected that to say the injury is to Filipowski’s right knee. Scheyer also claimed court-storming is dangerous for the players and questioned what it will take for leagues or the NCAA to ban the practice.

Filipowski was asked if he felt the incident was intentional, and the star big man did not hold back. He said there are videos of getting punched in the back and “absolutely” feels like he was intentionally targeted in the rush.

“I’ve already heard there are some videos of getting punched in the back, so I absolutely feel like it was personal, intentional for sure,” said Filipowski. “There’s no reason where they see a big guy like me trying to work my way up the court and they can’t just work around me. You know, there’s no excuse for that.”

While the status of Filipowski will be key moving forward, the loss to Wake Forest also drops Duke a game behind UNC in the ACC standings with the ACC Basketball Tournament right around the corner.
