Saturday provided some separation at the top of the SEC men’s basketball standings. Auburn stands alone entering the new week.

Alabama and Auburn were tied at the top until Saturday. No. 6 Tennessee handed Alabama its first conference loss, a 91-71 thumping in Knoxville at Thompson-Boiling Arena.

Alabama and Tennessee are joined by No. 8 Kentucky in the 4-1 group. John Calipari’s Wildcats managed a 105-96 win over Georgia despite the Bulldogs’ 61-point second-half effort at Rupp Arena in Lexington.

No. 13 Auburn remains unblemished in SEC competition with an 82-59 home blowout of No. 22 Ole Miss. Bruce Pearl’s squad is the only SEC team without a conference loss (16-2, 5-0).

Mizzou and Vanderbilt still haven’t found a way out of Club 0-fer. The Tigers and Commodores are the only SEC teams without a conference win through five games. MU lost at home to Florida, while Vanderbilt could not overcome a 15-point halftime deficit at Mississippi State.

One of the week’s most intriguing matchups leads things off Tuesday. No. 8 Kentucky travels to take on a South Carolina squad that has turned some heads with a 15-3 start, including a 3-2 showing in conference contests.

Wednesday’s action is headlined by the Iron Bowl of Basketball. Auburn’s undefeated SEC record will be put to the test when it travels to Tuscaloosa for a rivalry showdown with Alabama.

Saturday will be another full 7-game slate. Chris Beard returns to the Lone Star State as his Ole Miss squad travels to Texas A&M to face Buzz Williams’ Aggies.
