Despite advancing to the Conference USA title game, North Texas has elected to fire coach Seth Littrell. North Texas fell 48-27 against UTSA in the championship contest.

North Texas is slated to join the AAC next season along with Florida Atlantic, Charlotte, Rice, UAB, and UTSA. All but UTSA and Rice have made coaching changes going into the conference.

The 44-year-old Littrell has coached at North Texas since 2016, compiling a record of 44-44 overall and 32-23 in conference play. Littrell also guided North Texas to the conference title game in 2017, which was a 41-17 defeat vs. Florida Atlantic.

This was Littrell’s first head coaching job after previous stints as an offensive coordinator and assistant at Texas Tech, Arizona, Indiana, and North Carolina.

North Texas hasn’t registered a double-digit winning season since going 10-1 in 1977 under Hayden Fry. North Texas has a 7-6 overall record this season and will take on Boise State in the Frisco Bowl on Dec. 17 (9:15 p.m. ET/ESPN).
