Alabama’s quarterback situation has been a major SEC storyline but the Clemson Tigers have been in a similar situation in the ACC.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers have two very talented quarterbacks in Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence. Replacing Deshaun Watson, all Bryant did last season was lead Clemson to a third straight ACC title and College Football Playoff appearance.

But Lawrence arrived at Clemson as the No. 1 recruit in the country according to 247Sports. Even as a freshman, he’s showcased his tremendous skills as a passer, throwing for 600 yards, averaging 10.0 yards per attempt, nine touchdowns and two interceptions in the first four games. Last week, he received a majority of the snaps against Georgia Tech, throwing for 176 yards on 18 attempts. He also recorded four touchdowns with one interception.

On Monday, Swinney announced Lawrence would start in Week 5 against Syracuse.

Bryant was hurt last season when the Tigers faced the Orange, but Syracuse was the only ACC team that beat Clemson last season. However, this year’s game will be at Clemson Memorial Stadium.

The timing of this decision is interesting for another reason. With the new redshirt rule, Bryant could transfer right now and not lose eligibility.

This likely won’t be the end of Clemson’s quarterback saga.
