Man. I really hope CMR gets into college athletics administration after he hangs up the coaching hat. Then returns to UGA in an administrative role, AD or Asst. AD, and during that tenure the football team wins a NC (or 2?). Then he could finally say he made a lasting contribution to a program that obviously still means a lot him. Go Dawgs.
Can you imagine the storylines if Bama and UGA meet in the SEC Champ game? A regular-season rematch with UT at the end of the year would only suffice if UT somehow sends the Tide rolling back to T-town with a loss. A "Florabama" game could be interesting, maybe. But Bama / UGA. That's the game. There's so much that would be built up. The last second loss in 2012 SEC champ game. Last year's thumping of UGA. Smart getting them to SEC champ game in his first year. Smart vs. Saban. Mo Smith saga. It's got everything. Geaux Dawgs
I would reckon that Brown and BMac were provisioned to stay on the staff no matter who they hired, given their track record and the fact that they were the only two guys reportedly still hitting the bricks on the recruiting trail for UGA in the wake of CMR firing. As much as I'd like to see Pruitt back in the Red & Black next year, it seems unlikely. Even IF Smart offers him to stay on, and 'Bama comes-a-knockin' for the same position, can't see him choosing to stay. Either way, I have no doubt UGAs D will be fantastic with whomever gets to call the shots on that side of the ball. It's the OC hire that will almost certainly define this football team's future. Tyson Helton seems worthy, but hard telling since there's not much info out there on this guy. I suppose considering WKU had a top-10 scoring offense the past couple years doesn't hurt? Seems like a definite "pass first" OC, which looks nice on paper for QBs / WRs! However, will that philosophy hurt the running game legacy that UGA has established? One constant about these UGA teams was that we always (always!!!) RTDB!!! And not too many teams could stop it...
To answer the question "But who would you start?"
First off, nothing and nobody is "Locked Down" until the kid steps on campus and is enrolled in courses. It's a hard commit, but Eason was the first guy everyone looked to once Bobo left (since he was Eason's primary recruiter, coached QBs, etc.). Seems like Schotty can keep him committed, but its a long time between now and then. Second, Park shined as the scout team QB, and it probably more athletic than Ramsey, but it's hard to say he will definitively start game #1 for UGA. It'll likely come down to who can best supplement Chubb / Michel's running game. That said, I have to agree you guys on one thing: I wouldn't say that QB is the biggest "need" as it is the biggest question mark for 2015. Go 'Dawgs!
Hmm.. seems like a promising hire? Not much info on the guy, but seems to have climbed the coaching ranks pretty fast, which is a good sign I suppose? Time will tell. Go 'Dawgs!
So, Terry Godwin doesn't make the list? I know he's an ATH, but a 5* that will almost certainly (probably), play WR in Athens.
Oh, you Carolina fans, you! You're not an idiot. You're the best!
Honorable Mention: Lorenzo Carter? Only because the kid came in after Floyd hit the skids midseason and didn't skip a beat, and who I (personally) believe is set for a breakout sophomore year. Really excited to see what Pruitt puts together on the defensive side of the ball with last years haul and this years recruiting class. We all know on offense, Chubb / Michel / Marshall will be the first, second and third down options :)
Maybe. But a lot of times these HS coaches are like father figures to the kids. They develop relationships, and some more than others, feel vested in the special few that are considered elite talents. I don't know his motive behind it, but neither Roquan or his family are speaking on his behalf, so I guess ol' Larry feel obligated to step in for a kid he presumably cares a lot about? Anyways, Go Dawgs!
Looks like the Chauncey's got mixed up on the video tag? The highlight reel is for Chauncey Rivers, who signed this year, not Manac. Both DE studs, from Georgia, headed to UGA! Classic mixup.
"Four-star defensive back and [FORMER] Alabama commit Rico McGraw..." Anyways, Go Dawgs!
I think we recruited him as an "athlete" and he was going to be on the defensive side of the ball, had he come to UGA.
No. UGA will be a front-runner (for the East) again, until they lose to SC and another team they should beat on some dumb shit. Enter: Mizzou.
It's not a huge loss, honestly. With the other 3 guys coming in and a couple solid guys returning, this isn't terribly troubling. If we get Eason next year, you can bank on nabbing some top WR talent to play alongside him, a la Stafford / Green connection.
I'm not sure Richard Samuel was a "5-star" recruit coming out, he may have been on some rankings, but his composite was solidly in the 4-star range. Also, lest we forget that he came into a Georgia team who had Knowshon Moreno in his (R) sophomore season, had just signed Caleb King the year before (who was much more hyped than Samuel ever was), and signed Washaun Ealy the year after? He was better off playing line backer because he was a solid athlete, but was never going to get a handle on backfield with a program that's a factory for RB talent.
Make that paper! Sad to see TGIII leave, but honestly can't wait to see him land on his feet somewhere in the League. Good kid. Unfortunate circumstances.
Maybe he knows something we don't, but I had the exact same thought!?
Doesn't matter, though, really. In a flux year, whoever gets the nod this year will just be keeping the seat warm for Eason (fingers crossed), who looks like a Stafford / Bradford hybrid.
Agreed. Park apparently opened some eyes playing for the scout team last year, however his game isn't prototypical for the UGA "Pro-style" offense. We'll see. But yeah, put the guy in that's going to give us the best chance at getting wins.
Yeah.. there's only so many ways Chubb can run the ball I suppose? Eight sounds about right
Umm.. this is a PHENOMENAL hire! Seriously! The rumors of Roper were getting me down, but this is fantastic! Schotty is a solid coach and was lauded as a offensive innovator in his early NFL days. Although his NFL #'s are spectacular, (he was at the Jets and Rams, c'mon) he's great for UGA! I wanted Derek Dooley, but this is a (more than) nice consolation. Well done, CMR. Well done indeed. CAN. NOT. WAIT... to see the 2015 Dawgs! #Fam15
