Florida didn’t have a great showing in a 33-17 Week 1 loss to Michigan, struggling to decide on a quarterback after redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks underwhelmed to start the game.

However, Notre Dame graduate transfer Malik Zaire didn’t fare much better, as neither quarterback managed to lead a scoring drive (both Gator touchdowns were scored off of interception returns).

On Tuesday, senior RB Mark Thompson said he felt Franks should have gotten to play the whole game instead of getting pulled for Zaire midway through the contest:

Indeed, the Gators needn’t look farther than their own division for an example of why sticking with a quarterback can be better than switching, as Tennessee QB Quinten Dormady managed to lead the Vols to a come-from-behind victory after struggling early in the game.

Though Franks certainly struggled, it would have been interesting to see what he could have done if coach Jim McElwain had a little more faith in him.

Florida fans will have to wait and see if the Gators go with Thompson’s suggestion this weekend against Northern Colorado.
