LSU climbed to No. 1 in this week’s College Football Computer Composite rankings.

The Tigers jumped 10 spots in the rankings following last Saturday’s 35-28 win over Florida.

The College Football Computer Composite (CFCC) combines five of the computer formulas used in the old Bowl Championship Series standings. The CFCC takes the geometric mean of rankings formulated by the Billingsley, Colley, Massey, Sagarin and Wolfe rankings. Some of the metrics used in the CFCC are wins and losses, strength of schedule, home-field advantage, recency of game and, in the Massey and Sagarin rankings, margin of victory.

The Tigers are the first team to ever make a double-digit jump to No. 1 in the CFCC rankings.

Utah is second in this week’s rankings, just 0.14 of a place behind LSU. Ohio State is No. 3, followed by No. 4 Michigan State and No. 5 Alabama.

TCU is No. 6 in the CFCC rankings, followed by Baylor, Clemson, Iowa and Florida.

TCU was No. 1 last week, but dropped to No. 6 after a 45-21 win over an Iowa State team that is ranked 84th in this week’s CFCC.

Four other SEC schools are also in the CFCC Top 25. Texas A&M is No. 17, Ole Miss is No. 20, Mississippi State is No. 21 and Georgia is No. 25.

None of the five formulas that combine to make up the CFCC had the same No. 1 team this week. LSU is No. 1 in Peter Wolfe’s rankings, Alabama is No. 1 in Jeff Sagarin’s rankings, Michigan State is No. 1 in Richard Billingsley’s rankings, Utah is No. 1 in Wes Colley’s rankings and Baylor is No. 1 in Ken Massey’s rankings.

LSU was seventh in Massey’s rankings and 10th in Sagarin’s rankings, which are the only two formulas that use margin of victory. But the Tigers were ranked second by Billingsley and Colley.
