The Oklahoma Sooners and offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle parted ways on Monday. Two days prior, Oklahoma’s offense struggled yet again in the Sooners’ loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Tight ends coach Jason Witten is calling Oklahoma’s plays for the remainder of the season. Whether he’s a legitimate candidate for the OC position long-term is unclear. Regardless, head coach Brent Venables knows what he wants his next offensive coordinator to prioritize. He spoke about his desires on Tuesday.

“[It’s] incredibly important we get someone to come in here and help us score touchdowns. I don’t care how fast it happens. I don’t care how much time’s off the clock. I’m not into that,” Venables said. “I like to put pressure on people. Be explosive. Have balance. Run the ball when we have to, throw the ball when we have to. Be efficient… lead the world in turnover margin.”

The Sooners are averaging the second-fewest total yards (336.9) and points per game (22.0) in the SEC this year. Only Arkansas (336.1 yards, 19.6 points) is worse in both categories. Oklahoma’s first chance to light up the scoreboard with Jason Witten comes on Saturday night in Gainesville against the Florida Gators (7:45 p.m. ET, SEC Network).
