Sad news to pass along out of the state of Texas. Former Oklahoma defender Marquis Anderson was recently killed in a shooting and now his former high school teammate has been charged with manslaughter.

Matt Goetz, who played with Anderson at Steele High School in Cibolo, Texas, has been charged with manslaughter after police investigated the Selma, Texas shooting.

According to KSAT, police found Goetz, 30, standing outside of a Honda Accord tending to Anderson when they arrived on the scene. Goetz told investigators that he and Anderson were old friends and that they had been drinking. He did not go into further detail about what happened but arrest records show that investigators found a pistol on the passenger’s seat and gun residue on Goetz’s hands.

The report also states, “Witnesses described hearing a single gunshot and then seeing a man who fit Goetz’s description get out of the car’s passenger side, walk to the driver’s side and start screaming.”

Goetz signed with Texas Tech out of high school and later played for Mike Leach at Washington State.

Anderson redshirted his first year at Oklahoma and then played in four games as a redshirt freshman in 2012. He left the program in 2013.

Anderson was 28.
