Sporting News recently ranked the top 25 running backs in college football, and coming at no surprise, four SEC backs made the cut.

The top overall ranked running back was Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor.

The highest ranked SEC back at No. 3 was Georgia’s D’Andre Swift, who has rushed for 1,667 yards and 13 TDs in two career seasons. UGA coaches and fans certainly hope he stays healthy for the 2019 season and has a career year. Swift has the talent to be the top running back drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Alabama’s Najee Harris was ranked No. 9 overall by the outlet. Harris has played behind Damien Harris and Josh Jacobs for the last two seasons, and it’s his time to the shine. The former 5-star back should be the main backfield weapon for Nick Saban’s offense. In two seasons, Harris has rushed for just 1,153 yards and seven TDs.

Vanderbilt’s Ke’Shawn Vaughn (ranked No. 12) electrified folks in 2018 and quickly made an impact in the SEC. He has track speed with ridiculous moves. Vaughn rushed for 1,244 yards and 12 TDs last season. How big of a year Vaughn has may depend more on if the Commodores can throw it. Defenses will no doubt key in on Vaughn.

Missouri’s Larry Rountree III rounded out the rankings for the SEC backs at No. 16. In two career seasons, Rountree has rushed for 1,919 yards and 17 TDs. He’s coming off of an impressive 2018 season that saw him rush for over 1,200 yards and 11 TDs.
