Ten SEC assistant coaches have been named nominees for this year’s Broyles Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top assistant coach.

Former LSU offensive coordinator Joe Brady won the award in 2019. Past winners of the award also include current head coaches Lincoln Riley, Mike Locksley, Tom Herman and Kirby Smart.

In total, the Broyles Award named 56 nominees for this season. Here’s the full list of qualifiers from the SEC:

  • Steve Sarkisian, Alabama
  • Barry Odom, Arkansas
  • Larry Porter, Auburn
  • Brian Johnson, Florida
  • Dan Lanning, Georgia
  • John Schlarman, Kentucky
  • Zach Arnett, Mississippi State
  • Marcus Johnson, Missouri
  • Jeff Lebby, Ole Miss
  • Mike Elko, Texas A&M

That list includes some of the most prominent coordinators in the SEC. It also recognizes former Kentucky assistant John Schlarman, who passed away earlier this season after a battle with cancer.

A selection committee will soon narrow the field to 15 semifinalists and five finalists from the list of full nominees. The selection committee is comprised of former head coaches, broadcasters and FWAA writers will be in charge of trimming the nominees.

The Broyles Award was created in honor of former Arkansas head coach Frank Broyles, who had a tremendous reputation for developing assistant coaches throughout his career.

The 2020 Broyles Award winner will be announced on Dec. 28.
