The best game in college football this weekend features a pair of SEC East rivals, as No. 6 Florida and No. 8 Georgia face off in Jacksonville to potentially decide which of the two teams will play in the conference championship game in December.

While that’s not a given, either the Gators or the Bulldogs will be in position to control their SEC destiny by winning the rest of their games and taking the SEC East.

As you might expect, many are predicting this to be a competitive game, and that includes FS1 radio host Colin Cowherd. On “The Herd” on Thursday, Cowherd made a score prediction and a betting pick for the game. And although he likes the Gators to cover the spread, he’s picking the Bulldogs to win.

“Florida, frankly, is really well-coached. They’ve won 11 of 12, they have the best defense in the SEC and two starters coming back off injury,” Cowherd said. “I think Florida, though, is still a year away. Their defense is fantastic, their coach is great, but I think Georgia’s got better players. But I’m betting a number here. I’m going to take the 6 1/2 points. Georgia wins, 24-23, low scoring. But the number’s too tasty. I’ll take the Gators and the 6 1/2.”

Even though Cowherd believes Georgia will win a close game, he isn’t too high on the Bulldogs entering the week. He shared some of his skepticism about them prior to making his pick.

“We don’t know what Georgia is. Now the Notre Dame win doesn’t look like anything, because Notre Dame got their ears boxed by Michigan,” Cowherd said. “What is Georgia? They can’t throw the ball down the field. I love their athletes, and I like their coach. They’ve got more good players in this game, but Jake Fromm, the quarterback, has dropped off the last two weeks. He’s giving you 160 yards passing a game, one touchdown, three picks. They have no deep threat.”

Florida and Georgia are set to kick off on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
