Week 1 of the college football season has come and gone, and several teams registered impressive victories that were worth noticing. From Maryland’s upset win over Texas for the second year in a row to No. 1 Alabama’s destruction of Louisville, we had a little bit of everything sprinkled into Week 1.

On Monday, CBS Sports analyst Danny Kanell gave his list of the top eight teams who impressed him in Week 1, and three of his top five were SEC teams.

The SEC had an impressive opening week in college football, posting a 13-1 record which included victories over No. 6 Washington and No. 8 Miami. Unsurprisingly, Alabama came in at No. 1 on Kanell’s list after its 51-14 drubbing of Louisville, in which the Crimson Tide defense held the Cardinals to just 16 rushing yards on 26 attempts. If you weren’t sold on Alabama before the season, you probably should be now.

At No. 2 on Kanell’s list, he has the team who posted arguably the most impressive win the SEC had in Week 1, Auburn. The Tigers held No. 6 Washington to just 16 points and QB Jarrett Stidham was impressive, completing 26-of-36 throws for 273 yards and a touchdown. It looks like the SEC West is going to be a dog fight between Alabama and Auburn once again.

At No. 5 on the list is LSU, who had one of the most surprising wins of Week 1. LSU’s defense held Miami to just 83 rushing yards and forced two turnovers on the way to a 33-17 upset that had everyone a little shocked.

It’s worth noting that No. 3 Georgia is missing from Kanell’s list. Granted, it’s hard to impress people in Week 1 when you’re playing Austin Peay, but the fact that the Bulldogs are absent from the list after they took down the Governors 45-0 is interesting.

Overall, the SEC is still the premier conference when it comes to college football, and it showed in Week 1.
