Last year’s College Football Playoff (CFP) predictions for many were flat out wrong. Most had Ohio State as a shoo-in at the beginning of the season to at least make the final four.

Of course, that turned out to be incorrect and Alabama won the second ever CFP. Earlier this month, ESPN.com Insider Brad Edwards predicted the final four teams for 2016.

Here are Edwards’ four seeds:

1. Oklahoma
2. LSU
3. Clemson
4. Washington

No. 1-seed Oklahoma would face No. 4 Washington. Washington, a team that won seven games a season ago, would obviously have to improve greatly in order for this prediction to come true.

Edwards has No. 2 LSU facing No. 3 Clemson. Having the SEC Champion in the mix is a safe bet, and predicting that Clemson would get back to the final four with quarterback Deshaun Watson returning as a junior certainly isn’t crazy either.

“In the other [final four matchup], I have No. 3 Clemson knocking off No. 2 LSU,” Edwards wrote. “Through the first two seasons of the College Football Playoff, Only one of the four semifinal games has had even a little fourth-quarter drama. I would be really surprised if this battle of Tigers wouldn’t buck that trend.”

Edwards’ article talks about how Alabama would be the safe pick from the SEC, but scheduling factored into the final decision.

“The Crimson Tide are one of four SEC teams ranked in the top seven of the Football Power Index preseason rankings, and they have to go on the road to play the other three,” Edwards wrote. “That’s why I’m taking LSU, which returns 17 starters and gets both Alabama and Ole Miss in Baton Rouge, while not having to face Tennessee (or FPI No. 10 Georgia) in the regular season. I’m also expecting significant improvement from the LSU defense under new coordinator Dave Aranda.”

In the end, Edwards has Clemson beating Oklahoma for the national title.

Edwards will be on the Paul Finebaum Show Friday, June 17, where he’ll talk about his predictions.
