College football fans can’t get enough rankings. There are the traditional polls (Associated Press Top 25, Coaches Poll) along with metric rankings (Football Power Index, SP+) and then publication/analyst rankings.

Mark Schlabach authored the ESPN power rankings after Week 3’s action. The same six SEC teams from Week 2 remain in his top 25, but there has been some movement:

  • No. 2 – Alabama
  • No. 3 – Georgia
  • No. 5 – LSU
  • No. 9 – Auburn
  • No. 13 – Florida
  • No. 19 – Texas A&M

Schlabach moves teams around more than AP voters. After Week 2, he had LSU at No. 3 and Georgia at No. 4. Both teams won again by large margins in Week 3, but Schlabach has moved the Dawgs ahead of the Tigers. Other notable changes include Auburn and Florida dropping despite winning in Week 3. AU was No. 8 after Week 2, but the Tigers are down to No. 9. The Gators were previously No. 10, but are down to No. 13 after the 29-21 win at Kentucky. The FPI has Missouri and Mississippi State in the top 25, but the Tigers and Bulldogs don’t make the cut for Schlabach’s top 25.

Later today, it will be interesting to see how the rankings in the traditional polls compare to Schlabach’s rankings.
