It’s an honor that goes to the coach who is among the most dedicated, hardest working people in America — the college football assistant coach. This year, there are four SEC coaches who are semifinalists for the Broyles Award.

Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, Geogia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker and Mississippi State defensive coordinator Todd Grantham are among 15 finalists for the award.

The 22nd annual award will be given on Dec. 5. Last year’s winner was defensive coordinator Brent Venables of Clemson.

In his first season at Alabama, Daboll’s offense leads the league in scoring at 41.4 points per game and rushing offense, and is second in total offense.

In his second season at Georgia, Tucker’s defense is second in the league, allowing 276 yards per game, second in rushing defense, allowing 105 yards and second in scoring at 14 points per game.

In his first season in Starkville, Granthan’s unit is third in the SEC in total defense, fourth in rushing defense and third in passing defense.

Steele is also in his second season at Auburn, and his unit is in the top 25 in several categories.

The award was created in 1996 to recognize legendary Arkansas coach Frank Broyles and his track record of producing successful assistant coaches in college football.
